Shalom Theatre Company of Salt Lake City is holding its first annual playwriting contest for teens.   Scripts are now being accepted.   Deadline for submission is February 2010 (specific date to come). Teens should submit TWO COPIES OF EACH PLAY IN HARD COPY FORM, NOT ELECTRONICALLY.   Send scripts to:

SHALOM THEATRE COMPANY OF SLC
CHERIE BENNET, ARTITSTIC DIRECTOR
655 H STREET
SALT LAKE CITY, UT 84103

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Students age 13 – 18 (if you are 18, you must still be in high school).  Middle school students will compete against each other and high school students will also compete against each other.

HOW TO ENTER: Write a ten minute play inspired by one of the Ten Commandments.  Your play can be contemporary and comedy is welcome.   Cast size no larger than five.  Play should have a beginning, middle and an end.  A ten minute play will generally run between 8 to 12 pages, not counting the page listing your cast. Plays MUST be typed.  Check online for the proper way to set play dialogue and stage directions on paper.  When you submit, have your name appear ONLY ON THE COVER SHEET, which should include your name, age, grade, address, phone number and email.  YOUR NAME SHOULD NOT APPEAR ANY PLACE ON THE PLAY ITSELF AS ALL JUDGING WILL BE DONE BLIND.  In other words, the judges will not know who the author of the play is.  You may enter up to three plays.

JUDGES: Playwrights, directors, actors, English teachers, professors, etc.  Judging will be done blind.  DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON THE SCRIPT ITSELF.

WINNERS:  Winners will be announced in mid-October.

RUNNERS UP: (a minimum of two and a maximum of five) will receive a rehearsed reading of their play in front of an audience.

WINNERS: (one in middle school category and one in high school category) A fully staged production of their play in front of an audience.

GRAND WINNER (one of the two winners) will also receive $100.00
